Dear USASF Members:
Thanks to USA Cheer, the USASF was just granted the opportunity to send a team with Exceptional Athletes (formerly called Special Needs) to the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championship in April of 2018 to represent the National Team for the USA!
In order to meet the timeline of this special invitation, an Exceptional Athletes Sub-Committee met to create an expedited selection process. The committee decided to award this opportunity to a team who already competes and who could adapt a routine to the ICU format and safety guidelines in time for the championship.
Congratulations to Maryland Twisters Eye of the Storm, who will represent The National Team for the USA at the 2018 ICU World Cheerleading Championship!
Moving forward, a process and system will be implemented to include more teams with Special Needs in the selection process. We will likely create a video submission program (similar to the current Worlds bid video program for teams with Exceptional Athletes) where a distinguished panel of judges will select the official team. Be on the look out for the 2019 US National Team information that should be released this Fall.

The USASF Dance Worlds score sheets and training webinars have been posted to the website. The Category Directors recorded a detailed review of the score sheets breaking down each caption, highlighting point values, judge thoughts, and even giving insight to some of the tools the judges use to encourage consistency at The Dance Worlds. These same reviews will be used to train judges at the 2018 Dance Worlds.
These sheets are available to all event producers as an option to use during the 2017-18 event season. Coaches, be sure to check with each event producer to verify what scoring system will be used and to plan your choreography accordingly.
Cheers to a successful event season!

For questions or additional information:
Each year following The Cheerleading and Dance World Championship, the Worlds Advisory Board (WAB) reviews successes, opportunities for improvement, and new ideas for the following year. Because 2017-18 team placements and tryouts are in process, this new information is time sensitive as programs plan for next season. (Dance Worlds Divisions and Categories for 2018 will be released in early June.)
After reviewing Cheer Divisions and considering new opportunities for programs to field Worlds eligible teams, the WAB proposed, and the USASF Board of Directors approved, adding two new divisions for The Cheerleading Worlds in 2018.
- Senior Extra Small All Girl (14 members and below)*
- Senior Extra Small Coed (14 members and below)*
- A program may have only one Extra Small team at Worlds; either All Girl or Coed, not both.
- If a program receives a bid in either Senior Extra Small All Girl or Senior Extra Small Coed, that program may not compete in any other Cheerleading Worlds division.
- If a program receives a bid in any division, and also has a bid in a Senior Extra Small division (14 members and below), and decides to take both teams to Worlds, the Extra Small division team will compete in the Senior Small division. The team will not be eligible for the Extra Small division.

The USASF will continue to review annually and adjust as needed Worlds divisions that will best reflect the current program and team structures nationwide. We hope these new Cheerleading Worlds divisions will provide new opportunity to programs working towards fielding Level 5 Worlds teams.
