USASF Voting Slate 2011 Part I

The slate of items to be voted on at the NACCC meeting in January is available on the USASF website. Here is my 2 cents on each of them, Part I.

Level 1

1. Allow Level 1 teams to do straight ride basket tosses (Yes or No)

No. As long as we have 5 standard levels I think the most basic one should refrain from allowing basket tosses. If the number of standard levels was reduced to 3 I’d be in favor of allowing baskets in the most basic level.

Level 2

2. Increase skill progression for Level 2 Tosses (Yes or No)

Yes. Allowing more basic body positions in the first level permitting basket tosses is acceptable.

3. If the skill progression for Level 2 tosses is increased, choose one of the following options

A. Allow straight, pretty girl, and/or ball out positions only

B. Allow one non-twisting trick in basket rides/tosses for Junior & Senior age divisions

A. Since this is the most basic level allowing baskets I’d rather list the tosses that may be performed than list the number of skills that may be performed.

4. At Senior Level – Allow extended one leg stunts w/foot next to body (IE. Lib / Torch) (Yes or No)

No. I prefer each level to have the same rules regardless of age.

5. Allow multiple standing back handsprings (Yes or No)

Yes. I’d prefer it if running and tumbling rules were the same within a level.

6. Allow one standing handspring after a jump and/or jump combination (Yes or No)

Yes. I’m really pretty impartial on this one, but in general I think if a skill is allowed in the level it should be allowed with a jump attached to it.

Level 3

7. Allow multiple STANDING back handsprings to a tuck (Yes or No)

Yes. I’d like standing and running tumbling to be the same within a level.

8. Lower skill progression to allow tucks ONLY from a round off back handspring entry (Yes or No)

No. I’m pretty impartial on this one, but I don’t see a strong reason to remove round off tucks or front tucks from this level.

Level 4.2

9. Modify the current Level 4.2 age range (18 years and under) (Yes or No)

Yes. I’d prefer 4.2 was eliminated, but if we’re going to keep it we should limit it to those that are “too old” to learn how to tumble.

10. If the Level 4.2 age range is modified, choose one of the following options (A, B, or C)

A. Change Level 4.2 to (14 years and OLDER)

B. Change Level 4.2 to (12 years old – 18 years old)

C. Change Level 4.2 to (14 years old – 18 years old)

B. I think 12-18 should be the age range for all Senior divisions.

Level 4

11. Release moves that land in an extended position MUST originate from the ground (Yes or No)

Yes. This rule would create noticeable differences between Levels 4 and 5.

12. ONLY permit release moves to two feet (Yes or No)

No. I don’t know why I don’t like this one.

13. ONLY allow a full-up to an extended stunt with two feet (Yes or No)

Yes. This rule would also create noticeable differences between Levels 4 and 5.

14. For pyramids including braced inversions, there must be at least one person connected on each side of the top person at prep level and below (Yes or No)

Yes. I’m pretty impartial on this one.

15. Allow hitch-kick single twisting tosses (Yes or No)

Yes. I’m impartial on this too.

Senior Restricted Level 5 (Formerly Senior Open 5)

16. All skills up to 1 flipping and 1 twisting rotation allowed. Twisting flips may only be performed if preceded by a back handspring(s) or a round off. No bounding skills in immediate combination with twisting flip. During a full twisting tumbling skill, no trick other than a twist is allowed and both feet must land and finish on the performing surface. No tumbling is allowed after a full twisting skill. (Yes or No)

Yes. I’d prefer to get rid of Restricted 5, but if it is supposed to bridge Levels 4 and 5 there should be more differences than limiting the number of twists.

17. NO standing full’s, and No bounding skills in immediate combination with twisting flip. During a full twisting tumbling skill, no trick other than a twist is allowed and both feet must land and finish on the performing surface. No tumbling is allowed after a full twisting skill. (Yes or No)

Yes. This rule increases the differences between Restricted and Regular Level 5.

18. Tosses may not exceed 3 tricks (i.e. hitch kick full, switch kick full, kick double) (Yes or No)

Yes. I would also limit twisting rotations.

Crossovers

19. Limit the number of cheer teams an athlete may crossover per competition day (Yes or No)

Yes. There’s a limit to what a body can handle in a weekend.

20. If the number of cheer teams an athlete may crossover per competition day is limited, Choose one of the following options (A or B)

A. An athlete may compete on only 2 cheer teams per competition day

B. An athlete may compete on only 3 cheer teams per competition day

B. I think there should be a limited, but don’t think we should jump from unlimited to 2 teams.

21. Limit the percent of crossover athletes on a cheer team (Yes or No)

No. I’m pretty impartial on this, but don’t think it’s something that can be enforced yet.

22. If the percent of crossover athletes on a cheer team is limited, Choose one of the following options (A or B)

A. Limit the number of crossover athletes to 20% of the cheer team

B. Limit the number of crossover athletes to 25% of the cheer team

B. I don’t think there is a way to enforce this right now, but if there is a limit I think we should start with 25%, given the options.

Ethics

23. At ALL USASF sanctioned events, The USASF does not allow gym owners, their employees, and their clients to recruit other gym owners, their employees, or their clients while attending any USASF sanctioned event. Recruiting would include physically approaching them and/or handing out any type of advertisement (for example, but not limited to, business cards, brochures, flyers on cars, etc.) To be incorporated in the Professional Responsibility Code if passed. (Yes or No)

No. I would agree if business cards weren’t listed as something that could not be handed out. I agree with no flyers and brochures, but business cards are handed out for several reasons outside of recruiting.
