IASF 2011 Senior Scoring

Senior Score Sheet Recommendations

  • General Recommendations
    • Don’t have people doing nothing during Running Tumbling. Use those athletes to throw a Basket, perform a Pyramid, or do Synchronized tumbling, even if it’s just a standing tuck.
    • Overall Impression is 10% of your score. You need to do something to stand out. You should do 3 things to stand out, 1 for the Tumbling judges, 1 for the Building judges, and 1 for the Choreography judges.
  • Tumbling Score Sheet
    • Focus on Tumbling Execution. Since a “nearly perfect to perfect level of technique” is required to score in the top third of points and we don’t expect a significant difference in difficulty among the top teams, this is going to be what separates teams. Most teams should fall into the “standard to higher than standard technique” category and score 7-10 Points. Squeeze your legs and stick you landings so you are one of the teams that gets in the highest range.
    • Perform 2 Jump to Tucks as a Team. Jumps to Tucks will help your Jump, Standing, and Synchronization scores.
    • Perform at least 4 Jumps total, including a Triple (or more) Jump and 2 different Jump types. Preferably 5 Jumps total and 3 different Jumps. Don’t sacrifice execution to do too many consecutive jumps.
    • No Solo Tumbling. The Synchronization score is too important, especially for All Girl teams.
  • Building Score Sheet
    • Change your switch-ups to ball-ups that exceed the extended arm length of the bases. This will change a Level 4 entry to a Level 5 entry. Also try adding another quarter turn to your twisting entries. If these aren’t working in practice it’s easy to change them back.
    • Perform at least 3 entries or transitions, a Double Down (from an extended Single Leg stunt), an Inversion (from an extended stunt), and show at least 3 Body Positions for Flexibility.
    • Hit multiple “Picture Moments” in your pyramid and show variety in your transitions between the Picture Moment, by mixing in Flips and Twists.
    • Have your top and middle layers Double, Full, Pancake, or Cartwheel down from your Pyramids. Do not simply pop down.
    • Perform more than just one set of Synchronized Tosses. You have to do the synchronized set, but be sure to have additional baskets in your routine to get variety, even if the additional baskets are not Level 5.
    • Single Base Stunting:
      • Limited Coed – Do an Unassisted Toss Stunt to the highest level you can. The level of the Unassisted Toss Stunt, prep or extended, outweighs what the body position is, extension, liberty, or stretch.
      • Semi and Unlimited Coed – This is the trickiest one.
        • If you are confident you can get 19-22 Points by performing a Single Based Stunt sequence with “L5 Single base stunt skills. Advanced load-in, L4/L5 dismount and transitional skills or lifts to extended position without assistance. Examples: Walk in extension without assistance. Toss to prep without assistance. Example: Toss hands without assistance. Toss to extended position with assistance. Example: “J” up to extension.” or better, only do a Single Base sequence.
        • If you know you cannot get at least 15 Points from Single Based Stunts, don’t put in a Single Based Stunt sequence.
        • If you are in between do an Unassisted Toss Stunt to the highest level you can. and a Level 5 Multiple Based Stunt sequence.
    • The Single Based Stunt guidance leaves me with questions about how they will be scored. The example for the Highest Range, 24-25, is an Unassisted Toss Extension, but the guidance says also say “L5 Single base stunt skills with multiple body positions while in the air. Elite load-in, L5 dismount and transitional skills.”
      • Will an Unassisted Toss Extension really score a 24? As much as we support rewarding Coed Stunts, we don’t think that should get you in the highest range. It should take at least a Toss or Ball Up Stretch or Arabesque with a Full Down to get in the highest range.
      • Do you have to do a “Toss to extended position without assistance.” and “L5 Single base stunt skills with multiple body positions while in the air. Elite load-in, L5 dismount and transitional skills.” or just one of them to get in the highest range?
      • Will performing a Toss Extended Stunt then transitioning into a Multiple Base Stunt sequence put you in the highest range?
  • Choreography Score Sheet
    • Perform Multiple Level and Formation changes in you Dance, but don’t just change to change, use them to create a visual.
    • Have a fast paced Dance that includes footwork and groundwork.
    • Use a variety of formations throughout the routine, including an unconventional formation that only you will have.
    • Use the lines on the floor to make your formations and spacing perfect. Even when you are in your unconventional formation it should be well spaced so it looks intentional.
    • Keep transitions short. Athletes should never cross center unless they are tumbling, and never take more than 4 counts to change formations.
    • Use easy tricks, such as rolls and spins, to mask and add something more to your transitions.
