IASF 2011 International Scoring

International Score Sheet Recommendations

  • General Recommendations
    • Don’t have people doing nothing during Running Tumbling. Use those athletes to throw a Basket, perform a Pyramid, or do Synchronized tumbling, even if it’s just a standing tuck.
    • Overall Impression is 8.33%, Stunt Creativity is 5%, and Pyramid Creativity is 5% of your score. You need to do something to stand out and you should do 3 things to stand out, 2 for the Building judges, something for Stunts and Pyramids, and 1 for the Choreography judges.
  • Tumbling Score Sheet Recommendations
    • Limit Solo Tumbling. The Synchronization score is as much as Standing and Running combined.
    • Don’t be scared to do non Level 5 Tumbling skills as a group to improve your Synchronization score.
    • Perform 2 Synchronized Jump to Tucks as a Team, with one being a Double Jump to Tuck. These will help your Jump, Standing, and Synchronization scores.
    • Performing 3 total Jumps, as long as there is a Double Jump and at least 2 different Jump types performed, should be good enough.
  • Building Score Sheet Recommendations
    • Perform at least 4 Stunt entries or transitions, a Double Down (from an extended Single Leg stunt), an Inversion (from an extended stunt), and show at least 3 Body Positions for Flexibility.
      • Coed – Make at least 2 Entries to Extended Level
      • Level 6 – Make at least one entry or transition a Free Flip.
    • Level 5 teams should change  switch-ups to ball-ups that exceed the extended arm length of the bases. This will change a Level 4 entry to a Level 5 entry. Also try adding another quarter turn to twisting entries by having the bases turn. If these aren’t working in practice it’s easy to change them back.
    • Coed teams must Single Base Stunt as a team. There should be at least 2 “Picture Moments” with 6 Unassisted Extended Stunts in the air if a spotter is required or 8 if no spotter is required.
    • The Single Based Stunt guidance leaves me with questions about how they will be scored. The example for the Highest Range, 32-35, is a Toss extension without assistance, but the guidance says also say “L5/L6 Single base stunt skills with multiple body positions while in the air. Elite load-in, L5/L6 dismount and transitional skills.”
      • Will an Unassisted Toss Extension really score a 32? As much as we support rewarding Coed Stunts, we don’t think that should get you in the highest range. It should take a Full Up or Rewind to get in the highest range in Level 6, and at least a Toss or Ball Up Stretch or Arabesque with a Full Down to get in the highest range in Level 5.
      • Do you have to do a “Toss to extended position without assistance.” and “L5/L6 Single base stunt skills with multiple body positions while in the air. Elite load-in, L5/L6 dismount and transitional skills.” or just one of them to get in the highest range?
      • Will performing a Toss Extended Stunt then transitioning into a Multiple Base Stunt sequence put you in the highest range?
    • Hit at least 3 “Picture Moments” in your pyramid and show variety in your transitions between the Picture Moments, by mixing in Flips and Twists.
      • Level 6 – Make 2 of the Picture Moments 2.5 High.
    • Have your top and middle layers Double, Full, Pancake, or Cartwheel down from your Pyramids. Do not simply pop down.
    • Perform more than just a set of Synchronized Level appropriate Tosses. Do the synchronized set, but add at least 2 more and different Baskets or sets, one being Level appropriate and the other being an extremely high toss or Level appropriate.
  • Choreography Score Sheet Recommendations
    • Perform Multiple Level and Formation changes in you Dance, but don’t just change to change, use them to create a visual.
    • Have a fast paced Dance that includes footwork and groundwork.
    • Do an 8-count Cheer with Synchronized Motions to hit the Motion score.
    • Use a variety of formations throughout the routine, including an unconventional formation that only you will have.
    • Use the lines on the floor to make your formations and spacing perfect. Even when you are in your unconventional formation it should be well spaced so it looks intentional.
    • Keep transitions short. Athletes should never cross center unless they are tumbling, and never take more than 6 counts to change formations.
    • Use easy tricks, such as rolls and spins, to mask and add something more to your transitions. This isn’t as important as it is on the Senior Score Sheets, but if the opportunity presents itself you should take advantage of it.
    • Remember the Stunt and Pyramid Creativity scores will be given by Choreography Judges. They may be impressed by something different than traditional Building Judges.
