Cheerleaders Gear Up for 2012 National School Spirit Day

Varsity Celebrates 4th Annual National School Spirit Day on September 6, 2012

Memphis, TN - August 28, 2012 – Cheerleaders and dancers across the nation are gearing up for the 4th annual National School Spirit Day on September 7, 2012. Cheerleaders and dance teams across the nation have pledged to conduct at least four hours of community service in the week leading up to National School Spirit Day on September 7th.

VarsityNational School Spirit Day celebrates the leadership among cheerleaders and dancers and shines a spotlight on the positive attribute of teams across the country. Members of spirit squads (cheer and dance teams) develop a range of character traits from the work they do giving back to their schools and communities. Between activities such as pep rallies and alumni events, community service and general student leading, cheer and dance teams are always rising above and beyond the demands of their teams.

“While cheerleaders are recognized for spirit-raising activities all year long, they do so much more to benefit their communities and schools,” said Nicole Lauchaire, Vice President, Corporate Marketing & Communications at Varsity Brands. “That’s why Varsity created National School Spirit Day four years ago. It is a great way to honor the accomplishments of cheerleaders and dancers who are making a difference in communities across the country.”

This year, there will be two prizes – one for a team or individual, and one for an entire school.

Team/Individual Prize Pack

Teams performing at least 4 hours of community service each in the week leading up to National School Spirit Day your team could win these great prizes:

  • 250 Rooter poms, 150 sets of Thunderstix, 100 sets of Spirit Fingerz, and Custom “U-Build-It” tee for each team member from Varsity Spirit Fashion
  • Practice cheer mat (single roll) from Ross Athletic Supply

School Prize Pack

Cheerleaders can visit the National School Spirit Day website (www.nationalschoolspiritday.org) to pledge their community service and learn more. Some of the standout service activities from last year included:

  • Lady’s Island Middle School cheerleaders collected school supplies for the Franciscan Center of St. Helena Island, SC during the week of September 5-9th. The Franciscan Center is an outreach center staffed by approximately 60 volunteers that offers academic assistance, computer training, and adult English language classes to the community.
  • Shelby County West Middle School celebrated National School Spirit Day by having a sleep-over and making hundreds of cards to send overseas to our troops. They wrote customized messages in each card to give our soldiers a little love from home.

The Cheerleading Agency and USA Sports Production Announce Champions Cup Cheer and Dance State Nationals in 2013

The Cheerleading AgencyINDIANAPOLIS, May 15, 2012- The Cheerleading Agency and USA Sports Production are proud to announce a joint effort in presenting the Champions Cup Cheer and Dance State Nationals. The event will be held in July of 2013 and is expected to be become one of the largest cheerleading and dance competition in the United States.

The Champions Cup is anticipating over 151,000 competitors from all 50 states. The competitors will be comprised of athletes from scholastic cheerleading and dance as well as all-star cheerleading and dance that represent their respective states. This event will give athletes and coaches an opportunity to work together by coming together from their respective gyms and schools. Gymnastics components that have recently been disallowed from competition will be allowed for the summer of 2013. Each state could have up to 72 plus teams all competing for bragging rights. Video submissions for teams and placement will begin in June. In addition to the competition, there will also be a two day recruiting cheer and dance combine/intensive in which The Cheerleading Agency will be awarding scholarship money to both cheer and dance athletes.

“We couldn’t be more pleased than to team up with Linda Barclay and USA Sports Production. Linda has won our vote of confidence over the years from the quality gymnastics, cheerleading and dance events she holds annually. Her experience in the gymnastics and cheerleading world only adds value to what we are bringing to the Spirit Industry.” “We wanted to create a non-political experience for this innovative cheerleading and dance event. “Patrick Cowherd, of the Cheerleading Agency. “We are bringing some USAG flavor to our sport and we are very excited about the Champions Cup.” “We went to the athletes to get input on the event and listened to their like and dislikes and feel that we are able to offer an incredible event for 2013 and going forward.” We also feel this event is the perfect offset to the other events that take place. To us it was a no brainer. Athletes can compete with us during the summer and then get back to the Varsity, Jam Brands, IEP, and other competition companies during the regular season. It is a Win- Win for everyone. All Star Gyms, Dance Studios and Schools from each state will have an opportunity to play a part in this as well.

‘To be able to offer a competition over the summer that allows athletes and coaches the unique opportunity to work together to represent their state on the competition floor will be a very rewarding experience for us” said Linda Barclay, of USA Sport Production. “The fact that it doesn’t interfere with their school or all-star team programs will be an additional bonus. By offering all levels of competition we will have something for everyone so all states can participate. Being able to produce a competition of this caliber and have all 50 states and all levels and divisions for school and all-star cheer and dance will be a challenge but a challenge we are up for. Having been the Production Director for the gymnastics competition at the 1996 Olympic Games and the Competition Director for the 2003 World Gymnastics Championships being able to host this competition will be right up there with these major events. The Champions Cup Cheer and Dance State Nationals is the perfect competition to put together the combination of our event and gymnastics experience to provide a rewarding experience for all participants.”

Team and Coach Selections will begin June 1, 2012. For further information about the Champions Cup Cheer & Dance State Nationals, please contact The Cheerleading Agency at (317) 703-7895 or info@thecheerleadingagency.com or USA Sports Production at (317) 891-8260 or info@usasportsproduction.com.
